The study of neutrino properties, from the measurement of its helicity to the long-awaited discovery of oscillations, had an important impact on particle theory. The early experimental data (or its theoretical interpretation) seemed to suggest that neutrinos, unlike other fermions, were massless. In supersymmetric extension to the Standard Model of physics, a sfermion is a hypothetical spin-0 superpartner particle (sparticle) of its associated fermion. Each particle has a superpartner with spin that differs by 1 / ns in the SM have spin-1 / 2 and, therefore, sfermions have spin The name 'sfermion' was formed by the general rule of prefixing an 's' to the name of its. neutrino mass oscillations. The question of the neutrino’s mass is an important one in much of modern astrophysics and particle physics, as knowing its mass will reveal fundamental information about the nature of the neutrino and will let us discover new things about the state of the early universe. 2. Readers are brought up to date with the latest developments in important neutrino experiments, and the associated progress in theory is summarized. The principal projects worldwide, such as Super-Kamiokande, SNO, KamLAND, are considered, and contributions also report on future experiments, including JPARC, OPERA, and MINOS.

Neutrino Oscillations and Their Origin: Proceedings of the Third International Workshop Tokyo, Japan 5 - 8 December Y. Suzuki, Y. Fukuda, T. Takeuchi, T. Mori, T. Yoshida This work covers topics such as the latest solar neutrino results in super-kamiokande, weak current in deuterium, proton decay in the semi-simple unification model.

Studies of atmospheric neutrinos at a variety of detectors yield a consistent picture of neutrino oscillations, ie. that muon neutrinos oscillate to tau neutrinos with nearly maximal mixing and a mass splitting in the range of a few meV 2.

In this article, emphasis will be given to the high-statistics. The aim of this workshop was to put together the efforts from various fields necessary for understanding neutrino oscillations in detail, from both experimental and theoretical points of view.

One of the main experimental issues was to understand the absolute flux of both the atmospheric and the solar neutrinos in order to obtain detailed parameter information on neutrino oscillations.

The XMASS project is a plan to explore the low background frontier by using ultra-pure liquid xenon. The aims of this project are to observe low-energy solar neutrinos, to search for neutrino-less double beta decays, and to detect WIMP dark matter.

Experimental results from a prototype detector, kg liquid xenon detector, are discussed. Quick Search in Books. Enter words / phrases / DOI / ISBN / keywords / authors / etc.

This book, written by leading experts of the field, gives an excellent up-to-date overview of modern neutrino physics and is useful for scientists and graduate students alike. The book starts with a history of neutrinos and then develops from the fundamentals to the direct determination of masses and lifetimes.

A neutrino (/ n uː ˈ t r iː n oʊ / or / nj uː ˈ t r iː n oʊ /) (denoted by the Greek letter ν) is a fermion (an elementary particle with spin of 1 / 2) that interacts only via the weak subatomic force and gravity.

The neutrino is so named because it is electrically neutral and because its rest mass is so small that it was long thought to be mass of the neutrino is much Electric charge: 0 e. In addition, it reviews the experimental results, which over the last two decades have quickly led 5/5(1). This book reviews the status of a very exciting field -- neutrino oscillations -- at a very important time. The fact that neutrinos have mass has only been proved in the last few years and the acceptance of that fact has opened up a whole new area of study to understand the.

Neutrino is the biography of a sub-atomic particle that until recently, many people did not even think existed. The author weaves a masterful tale of the science and history of the neutrino - from its race from the heart of the sun to its capture in the depths of an abandon mine/5(66).

In that book, Professor Zuber provided a comprehensive self-contained examination of neutrinos, covering their research history and theory, as well as their application to particle physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics, and the broad reach of cosmology; but now to be truly comprehensive and accurate, the field’s seminal reference needs to be.

Japan is now a major force in the study of the three families of neutrinos.5/5(3). Neutrino oscillation (N.O.) is the only firm evidence of the physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics and is one of the hottest topics in elementary particle physics today.

This book focuses on the N.O., from its history to the future prospects, from the basic theories to the experiments. The reality of neutrino oscillations has not really sunk in yet. The phenomenon presents us with purely quantum mechanical effects over macroscopic time and distance scales (milliseconds and s of km).

In order to help with the pedagogical difficulties this poses, I attempt here to present the physics in words and pictures rather than math. No disrespect is implied by the title; I am merely Cited by: 2. Neutrinos can pass from one family to another (that is, change in flavor) in a process known as neutrino oscillation between the different families occurs randomly, and the likelihood of change seems to be higher in a material medium than in a vacuum.

The existence of flavour neutrino oscillations implies that if a neutrino of a given flavour, say νµ, with energy E is produced in some weak interaction process, at a sufficiently large distance L from the νµ source the probability to find a neutrino of a different flavour, say File Size: 2MB.

This program was delayed by the long effort to identify the origin of the solar neutrino problem and then to accurately determine the parameters governing neutrino oscillations.

Consequently today, given the few-percent determinations made of the relevant mixing angles and δ m 12 2, it has finally become possible to use neutrinos as.
